POROS PERLAWANAN – Sebuah harian terbitan AS memprediksi, kemungkinan penyitaan kapal-kapal tanker Iran yang menuju Venezuela sangat kecil.
Dilansir Fars, harian Washington Post mengklaim 5 kapal tanker Iran mengangkut sekitar 60 juta galon bensin ke Venezuela, yang akan dibayar Caracas dengan emas. Klaim ini telah dibantah oleh Teheran.
Menurut Washington Post, kapal tanker pertama akan tiba di Venezuela pada hari Minggu 24 Mei.
Dubes AS di Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, mengatakan, ”Kita melihat dua negara ‘terusir’ menganggap diri mereka bisa bertransaksi untuk memenuhi kebutuhan mereka.”
Pemerintah AS memberlakukan sanksi-sanksi sepihak atas Iran dan Venezuela, serta menekan masyarakat internasional untuk mencegah transaksi minyak antara dua negara tersebut.
Iran telah melayangkan peringatan kepada AS agar jangan coba-coba menahan kapal tankernya. Venezuela juga telah berjanji akan mengawal kapal tanker Iran begitu memasuki zona ekonomi.
Washington Post melaporkan, kendati Pemerintah AS memperingatkan Teheran dan Caracas soal jual beli minyak, namun para pejabat AS telah “memperlunak” nada bicara mereka terkait konfrontasi langsung dengan tanker-tanker Iran.
Pada hari Kamis 21 Mei lalu, Juru Bicara Kemenhan AS, Jonathan Hoffman, menepis adanya rencana untuk menahan tanker-tanker Iran.
Harian AS ini menilai, tindakan yang paling mungkin dilakukan Pemerintah Trump adalah menjatuhkan sanksi-sanksi baru terhadap Iran dan Venezuela.
Dubes Iran untuk Venezuela, Hojjatollah Soltani, membela pengiriman bensin menuju negara Latin tersebut. Soltani menegaskan, kedua negara berhak untuk menjalin hubungan dagang satu sama lain secara leluasa.
Menanggapi rumor AS yang akan mengganggu proses pengiriman BBM, Soltani menyatakan bahwa konvensi-konvensi internasional melindungi hubungan Iran-Venezuela yang terus meningkat.
“Hubungan antara Iran dan Venezuela bukan merupakan ancaman bagi siapa pun, juga tidak membahayakan pihak mana pun,” tandas Soltani.
